Why is Sound World needed?

A wealth of research conducted by academic institutions across the world demonstrates, conclusively wide ranging benefits of music education to child development. These include improvements in*:

  • cognitive ability
  • well-being and mental health
  • self-confidence
  • numeracy & literacy
  • critical thinking
  • creativity
  • communication & leadership
  • social cohesion

Despite this evidence, the importance of music education has been grossly underestimated by successive UK governments. School music departments are closing down across the country and more and more pupils are being denied this vital resource. Ofqual figures reveal a fall of over 17% in GCSE music candidates in just three years.

Naturally, the problem is most acute in areas of low socio-economic status, hence our focus on schools in such areas.

That’s why we create bespoke educational projects and first-class concert programmes and take them to communities and young people from all backgrounds. To find out more about what we do, please go to our Projects page.

To play a crucial part in creating and sustaining a vibrant musical culture that benefits everyone, please give us your support. The schemes below are available now, but if you would like to create your own, bespoke arrangement please email info@sound-world.org.
